IN RESPONSE to the raid, not only did the French reduce the restrictions on the American troops under their command, but they staged an elaborate funeral for the three dead men. Both Marshall's memorandum on the ceremony and General Bordeaux's speech are printed in Marshall's Memois, pp. 48–50.
