The Papers of General Nathanael Greene

To Peter Mallett.

Cannot give a "decisive answer" to Mallett's proposal of "15th of December." NG has been unable to consult with Joseph Clay, and Mallett's proposal lacked certain necessary information.[1]

[1.] Mallett's letter, dated 12 December 1780, is at PGNG, 6: 564. Clay had written NG on 15 January (PGNG, 7: 126-127) about the goods that Mallett was offering; NG had probably not yet received the letter. From Clay's letter of 28 February (PGNG, 7: 371-372), it appears that Mallett's proposal was not accepted.
