The Papers of General Nathanael Greene

From Captain Joseph Marbury,

Encloses a return of stores.[1] Has sent lead to the "Moravian Town," though he is unsure who is to receive it.[2] As he is often ordered to "furnish them," he has "reserved 339wt" of lead for the "use of Riflemen." The wagon that he sent to Maj. [George] Davidson for shoes has returned empty, but a supply is coming soon, which Marbury will forward immediately to headquarters. He has already sent tents and overalls to camp. The packsaddles will be finished soon.[3] Adds in a postscript that General Davidson "has repeatedly" requested flints. Marbury has none and does not know where to procure any.[4]
Autograph letter signed (MiU-C) 1 p.
[1.] NG had requested the return in his letter to Marbury, 16 January (PGNG, 7: 133-134).
[2.] The "Moravian Town" was undoubtedly Salem, N.C., where a laboratory was to be established.
[3.] As seen at Burnet to Marbury, 7 January (PGNG, 7: 60), the packsaddles were for Gen. Daniel Morgan's detachment.
[4.] On Gen. William L. Davidson's efforts to obtain flints for his troops, see his letter to NG of 24 January (PGNG, 7: 188-189).
