The Papers of General Nathanael Greene

To Governor Thomas Jefferson Of Virginia.

Asks him to assist Col. [Anthony W.] White, whom NG has "ordered to Virginia to compleat his Regiment."[1] Commends Gen. [Edward] Stevens, who "marched his Militia yesterday for Virginia."[2] Stevens has established "good order and regularity" among his men. NG hopes it will not be necessary to discharge Virginia troops again because of "short enlistments," but if the militia is called into service in the future, "perhaps no person could command them with more propriety."
