The Papers of General Nathanael Greene

From Samuel Huntington, President Of The Continental Congress,

Encloses Congress's resolution of 1 February, repealing as of 1 March an earlier act allowing army officers $3 per day for "Expences on Business not inciden{tal} to their Office."[1]
Autograph Letter Signed (Greene Papers: DLC) 1 p. The ALS is damaged, and several words were taken from a GWG Transcript, CSmH.
[1.] The Board of War had recommended passage of the resolution because of "the very great and unnecessary expence arising to the public from the abuse of the practice of sending officers on Command." (JCC, 19: 104)
