The Papers of General Nathanael Greene

To Walker Daniel

Sir

As a Corp of Volunteers to serve with the Army as mounted infantry may render essential service, at this critical state of affairs I recommend your raising three hundred for two months as soon as possible. The Men to equip themselves at their own expence for the service. The Corp to be formed into eight Companies, each company to have one Capt[,] one Lt and one Ensign. The Corp to be subject to the rules & regulations of the Army and to have the same pay and subsistence as the Continental Cavalry. You shall have the appointment of your own officers and have the rank of Major Commandt.
Given at Camp at Irvins Ferry Feb 15th 1781.
